Answer[edit]

The problem with the two pictures above is, that the layout of the cans is also under copyright and your trival reproduction can not grant you copyright. So you need the written permission of the producer/designer of the can to upload them. --Schlurcher (talk) 13:30, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The examples you put up are also not allowed on commons (but they are on the en-wikipedia, whre fair use is allowed), but it is a free projekt and so there is no control of upload. Fair use is not allowed on commons. --Schlurcher (talk) 12:42, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Supreme Deliciousness!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi. I uploaded a new version of this map in which the Golan Heights zone is painted with stripes. --Montgomery (talk) 22:51, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Source of Israel images[edit]

It's right there in the source entry of the information box, or isn't that enough? Richardprins (talk) 11:55, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah they're not verified by me, They're just a conversion of File:Oldtidens Israel & Judea.svg to English and to more conventional colors. If it makes you feel any better, the borders and names are the same (as far as I can tell) as the widely used file File:Levant 830.svg. If you think that's enough I could search for another verification, but you could help me as well.
Richardprins (talk) 15:52, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are right about the domino thing but the other files I cited are so widely used, somebody must have noticed a mistake if ther was one; but I suspect you have? Do you think Israel and Judah are too large? I'm interested Richardprins (talk) 18:05, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First, edit war is not the way that the things work in Commons. The file description by uploader wasn't wrong. If you want to made any change it goes through the talk page. Pleas respect others work. Your request to change may or may not accepted, you still have to respect that. You can see the correct way to act her.

Second, try to avoid adding expression like "Israeli-occupied" etc. It Invites additional supplement like "Israeli-occupied after syrian attack" ect. Any way if you want to make change, you do it through the talk page.

Thirdly, try not to remove Hebrew (or any language) description from the files like in this case.

Your Flickr uploads[edit]

Hello "Supreme Deliciousness"!

Thanks a lot for your contributions! Thank you for transferring images from Flickr to Commons! Two hints ahead:

  • Always upload the highest resolution of a photograph that is available on flickr
  • You can use this tool for your flickr uploads. It makes the hole procedure much easier and faster for you!

final warning (edit war)[edit]

Supreme Deliciousness, please stop your conflict with Kàkhvelokákh immediately! As far as I know and in the eyes of the international community the en:Golan Heights belong to Syria and are occupied by Israel. That's a fact! And of course as a result of this conflict people died and buildings are devasted, but we actually don't know who did what. As in every other conflict humanity dies first, so please show respect to all people killed or wounded in this ongoing war and stop your (edit) war! axpdeHello! 11:37, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wait please Axpde... I believe both Drork and Supreme Deliciousness are making good faith attempts to implement my suggestions in Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems#Stop_the_war. I have reviewed all of Drork's recent edits. Most were good, and SD has already picked up most of those that weren't. I think things are going forward. Please take a look at the proposal and let me know if you're not happy with it - it seems that Drork/SD/Geagea are all ok with it, and they are the primary parties involved. --99of9 (talk) 12:07, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, most of his recent edits were just commented "Undo revision ### by Supreme Deliciousness" ... doesn't sound very constructive to me :(
If both sides are pleased and the edit wars are over this warning is void, but else I'll block both sides to bring them to terms. I called for sanity frequently enough, didn't I? axpdeHello! 12:39, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In general they are undoing or editing the old edits that did not conform to my suggested new rules, and leaving the ones that did. I intend to follow this fairly closely too. All I'm saying is don't pull the trigger accidentally, make sure you check if they're going in the neutral direction or not. --99of9 (talk) 13:27, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Syria location map2.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

POV pushing[edit]

We take a mightily dim view of POV pushers on Commons. You have done nothing but POV push since you've come here. In particular, removing Israel categories from places that you don't personally recognize as Israel is not appropriate. Using the term "Israel occupied" while using the term "Kurdish controlled" is another example - let alone adding a tangential bit about Israeli control of the Golan Heights to a map about the Syrian civil war (it's not relevant, and it only will lead to fighting over nationalism).

Long story short: knock it off with the jingoism or you'll be blocked.

Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:48, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your pov pushing. There has been agreement before at commons not to use Israeli category's for places in the golan heights.
The area is not Israel. Israel is occupying part of Syrias land, so a map showing military control of Syria should of course also show the foreign Israeli military occupation of Syria. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 13:24, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your claim about not adding Israel is completely untrue. Let me make this very clear: we do not remove categories from images for disputed territories, whether it is Armenia/Azerbaijan, Israel/Palestine, or whatever the case. The same goes in reverse: people may not remove Syria categories from Golan Heights either. It doesn't matter whether you agree with them or not.
I haven't missed your refusal to acknowledge this, despite many previous warnings. As such, I've blocked your account for three days. I repeat, Commons looks very dimly on nationalist POV pushing.
Please stop your actions or you may be blocked indefinitely. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:59, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just a reminder that we have previously hammered out Commons:Disputed territories for exactly this situation, and you agreed to abide by it. It specifically says that (for images of plants in the Golan Heights) you can change Category:Flora of Israel to Category:Flora of the Golan Heights but as Magog says, you should not just remove Category:Flora of Israel. --99of9 (talk) 22:09, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quick deletion notice[edit]

Please note that File:Syrian civil war 2.png, which you recently uploaded is subject to quick deletion procedure. Seemingly, this also has to do with the previous incident above, described by user:Magog the Ogre and user:99of9.Greyshark09 (talk) 21:14, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please also read Commons:Overwriting_existing_files#Controversial_or_contested_changes.Greyshark09 (talk) 21:20, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What the hell is your problem? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 04:47, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The neutral and accurate word to describe Israels occupation of Syria's land is "occupation", not "controlled". --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 05:08, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Setting aside whether it's neutral to say one side is "controlling" and another is "occupying", the proper course of action then is to update the template, not remove the template and thus all the other languages. And the proper course of action is to bring the issue to the talk page when changing the text, not just reverting without comment. That sort of action is only going to alienate other people on here and possibly get you blocked (not by me). Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:32, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Last warning[edit]

Supreme Deliciousness, I have ignored your behavior for months now because you make really awesome, informative, and good maps. But you are flatly breaking the rules by edit warring without bothering to discuss the edits (despite, like infinity requests on your talk page), and by canvassing other editors.[6]

Please stop this behavior now, or I will take it to the administrator noticeboards and ask that you be blocked or banned.

Just because you think you're right doesn't give you the right to POV push and break our rules. I am not trying to make a power play on you, but projects like this do not work if we don't treat each other with basic courtesy. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:37, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

INeverCry 01:41, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

To INeverCry:

I believe that Magog the Ogre is biased against me. He has taken the side of User:Greyshark09 despite the fact that it is Greyshark09 that is pushing his pov without discussion. There has been two discussions at Wikipedia about how to present the Israeli occupied Golan in maps showing the military situation in Syria, and the majority support to present it in white with the text "under Israeli occupation" please see these two discussions:[7][8] Despite this Greyshark09 has taken it upon himself to remove this and force his pov into commons:[9][10]

I reverted him and asked him in the edit summary "Who agreed to this?", he then reverted me without saying anything:[11]

So who is the user that should be banned from commons? The user that discusses changes and gets consensus for them and then carries out the agreed edits (me) or the user who don't get any consensus for his edits and then starts edit warring without discussion (greyshark) You have now blocked by account infidelity at commons and not done anything about greyshark, is this fair? I am a long time editor here, how can you block my account and say that its a "disruption-only account"  ? I can not believe how you could have done this. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 01:53, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I implemented the block because you have a long history of disruption, including numerous warnings and three prior blocks. Magog the Ogre is a trusted and experienced admin, and wouldn't ask for a block on AN unless the situation was very serious and a long-term problem. I also noticed you've been advised and warned by 99of9, a bureaucrat and admin whose judgement I trust completely. Just remember that an indef block isn't permanent; if the problematic behavior you've long been involved in can be resolved, you can be unblocked. Feel free to file an unblock request, but there will have to be a discussion before any unblocking takes place. I would be especially interested in 99of9's take on this, as he seems to have been talking to you about this for quite a while. INeverCry 02:25, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@User:INeverCry I'm happy to review this, but first can you let me know the main location of the edit war you are concerned about? Or is it distributed? The diff linked by Magog doesn't seem harmful at all (it's a question)?? --99of9 (talk) 10:59, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I implemented the block based on a report by Magog the Ogre of ongoing problems from this user. I'm not familiar with him, but I tend to give quite a bit of weight to a report on AN/U by an admin, and as far back as I go in this user's history, I see arguments, reverts, and overwrites concerning Israel-related images, etc, most recently with Greyshark09 and with Magog. My concern is whether or not this user is capable of constructive non-POV editing or not? As a neutral admin looking at it for the first time, it looks like this user is here to push a POV and isn't interested in working calmly and respectfully with other editors. INeverCry 21:51, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

INeverCry, the indef block you put on me is ridiculous in several different ways, let me explain why, you said that you implanted the block on me based upon the post Magog the Ogre made at AN. And 99of9 previous warning. Now lets take a closer look about what has actually happened. A long time ago, (4 years ago) there was a dispute between me an account named Kàkhvelokákh (a sockpuppet of Drork that was later blocked and has a million socks on Wikipedia). See here: [12]. This dispute between me and the sockpuppet led to an agreement that admin 99of9 layed forward. The agreement was amongst other things that we categorize Golan Heights images as Golan Heights and then have Syrian and Israeli cats inside the first Golan Heights category. I agreed to that agreement. Since then I have been carrying out that agreement at several images here at commons:[13][14] [15][16]...and you know what happened when I did that??? I was reverted by admin Magog the Ogre:[17]("rv POV pushing")[18][19][20]

The same admin who made the post at AN claiming I was "pov pushing" which you then carried out the block on me for.... now seriously... does that make any sense to you?

INeverCry, based upon all of this, also that you do not know the full extant of everything that has happened in the past, I ask that you immediately lift this block. I also promise that if I do a revert at an image that I will open up a discussion at the talkpage explaining my revert. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 17:53, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Supreme Delicious, may I recommend you read this essay? The entire essay is literally a how-to guide on how to get unblocked, and that section applies really well to your response. And no, I should not have been the one that blocked you last time (FWIW, this is the only block I regret making on here). But that doesn't address the behavior problems that have led you to constantly to get in conflict with other users. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 05:10, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I still haven't looked into the recent disputes, but just wanted to link to the agreement that SD mentioned Commons:Disputed territories. --99of9 (talk) 05:31, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
SD, not all your edits that Magog reverted were the most helpful way forward described by the essay. Instead of removing thisor this Israel category, you should ensure they are in Golan Heights categories first, otherwise we lose the flora/tree categorization. Magog, SD was right about the others this and this were overcatting, because it was already in Category:Flora of the Golan Heights. I guess the first lesson is that back in April you were both making mistakes. --99of9 (talk) 05:45, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, maybe I should have done that, but the fact is, those edits were a long time ago and in no way warrant an indef block and me being labeled as a "disruption-only account". --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 16:41, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wrong. You were labeled a disruption only account because you have constantly edit warred, and in the very rare time that you actually are willing to discuss it, it's only to label everyone who disagrees with you a vandal. This is incredibly non-constructive. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:42, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Everyone"... ???? One person - Greyshark, who had no support for his change and forced his way without discussion or getting consensus. Ive already said above that if I do a revert in the future, Im gonna discuss it at the talkpage. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 16:32, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I unblocked your account, then. Please abide by this precept from here on, and - as a rider - consider that respectable people are allowed to disagree with each other, and that this world is a better place when we respect those opinions rather than insult them. My2ct: As an admin who blocked you before I'd like to add something: Seeing you indefinetly blocked my first impression was that this might be inadequate. Then I saw different complaints about you and wasn't sure anymore.

Personally I hate the war in Syria and Iraq. I'm with the peaceloving people suppressed by minorities as the terror group of the IS or the Assad regime. I have a friend whose family had to flee from Syria and to bewail the death of a young son and brother. And they have the same right as others to let all the world know what they have to sustain.

So please respect commons as a place without personal points of view. Our medias just show the facts and no propaganda at all! No american, no IS, no Assad, no matter of which side! Let me add that Baschar al-Assad has had a good standing in Europe for his role in the early "Arab spring". But now he suppresses his opposition by using arms and tanks. That's ok with the terror group of the IS but not with the peaceloving majority!

So far my personal thoughts. a×pdeHello! 09:48, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
